Enabling Broadcom 4306 rev 3 on Ubuntu 10.04 internetless

Kinda stuck to enable your Broadcom 4306 wi-fi adapter while there’s no way to connect your computer to wired switch or hub?

well here’s one way to do it internetless… (well actually you need one pc with live internet connection)

fire up your preferred terminal… (I choose gnome-terminal):

wget http://bu3sch.de/b43/fwcutter/b43-fwcutter-013.tar.bz2 --> do this on other computer
tar xjf b43-fwcutter-013.tar.bz2
cd b43-fwcutter-013
make
cd ..

export FIRMWARE_INSTALL_DIR="/lib/firmware"
wget http://downloads.openwrt.org/sources/broadcom-wl-4.80.53.0.tar.bz2 --> do this on other computer
tar xjf broadcom-wl-4.80.53.0.tar.bz2
cd broadcom-wl-4.80.53.0/kmod
sudo ../../b43-fwcutter-013/b43-fwcutter -w "$FIRMWARE_INSTALL_DIR" wl_apsta.o

reboot your computer…. voila… wireless network detected…
